- Department of Rural and Community Development

The DRCD has bolstered GIY’s Farm and Education Centre in Co. Waterford with funds from the Dormant Accounts Fund, specifically under the Scaling Fund for Social Enterprises, Strand 1, which focuses on Medium-Scale Capital Projects for Social Enterprises. This financial aid has been pivotal in acquiring the vital equipment necessary for establishing both the farm and the training centre.

Situated in Waterford, the GIY Farm and Education Centre is envisioned as a paragon of sustainable food systems, blending various elements such as:

  • Food Production: Employing regenerative agriculture techniques.
  • Education: Offering courses on cultivation, cooking, and sustainable living practices.
  • Enterprise: Fostering business practices that contribute to a sustainable economy.
  • Tourism: Creating a space that educates and engages visitors in sustainability.

The comprehensive approach of GIY Farm and Education aims to educate and inspire a community dedicated to sustainable food practices.

GIY stories

Meet some of our GIYers (that’s people who grow some of their own food) who all champion Food Empathy – a deeper understanding and connection with food from their experience of growing. If you want food done right, then grow it yourself.
